Student Researcher Travel Grants
Kenneth J. Rooney Travel Grant Award
This travel grant will allow the trainee/junior scientist to travel and attend an international conference in the area of hearing health, such as The Society for Neuroscience, The Association for Research in Otolaryngology and The Acoustical Society of American.
Rationale for the Award
Despite the learning opportunities inherent in such a trip, trainees and junior scientists who are at the beginning of their careers are generally unable to afford the cost of attending a conference.
This award allows a young researcher entry to the international scene. Discussion and networking with other academics creates the opportunity for perspective on their own research, cross-pollination of ideas and collaboration with other academics around the world. Over time, the contribution to Canadian research in the area of hearing loss could be significant.
The award also ties in to the student awards program that is part of The Hearing Foundation of Canada'a (THFC) larger vision for its medical research program, and enhances its current commitment to supporting the knowledge base hearing loss being developed by junior and intermediate researchers.
Eligibility
PhD students and post-doctoral students conducting research at a Canadian institution which is approved by THFC’s Medical Review Committee are eligible.
Students who apply must show how attendance at the conference of interest to them will have some effect on their research. The Medical Review Committee will assess and approve the application.
Students are allowed to apply more than once per year; but this eligibility will be reviewed after the first year during which awards are given.
